Wow! Is the only word I could think of after I left the cinema. A truly original action spy film. Some might say it reminds them of other spy movies but this is where I disagree. The twists and turns are never ending and I don’t just mean the stunts. Rarely do you find a believable heroine with a decent back story and action to boot all in the same movie.
It’s even more unbelievable when you discover that the main role was to be a man, but Jolie was so powerful in her casting that they changed it to a lead woman.
This 1hr 40min rollercoaster film keeps you on the edge of your seat, whether it be the costume changes (funny how all the clothes Jolie picks out are her size) to her ability to escape from inescapable situations. This film keeps you guessing right to the end to who is a goodie and who is a baddie.
Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, The Bone Collector) shows his brilliance as a director ad you can tell he was the right choice. The supporting cast deliver stellar performances with Live Schreiber (Winter) and Chiwetel Ejoiofor (Peabody) that for a change add and not detract from the action.
The ending leaves you in no doubt that there will be a sequel. I just hope it won’t be salt 2, if I had to choose I was thinking of “…and pepper”.
